Detroit police share new details, surveillance video of Toledo man accused of kidnapping woman

Detroit police say Kevin Thompson II has a history of assaulting, stalking and intimidating the woman he is accused of kidnapping.

TOLEDO, Ohio —

Video sent to WTOL 11 from the Detroit Police Department shows the moment a Toledo man allegedly kidnapped a woman in Detroit before driving her back to his west Toledo home, where police said he then assaulted her last month.

Kevin Thompson II was indicted in Lucas County on Tuesday on multiple felony charges, including kidnapping and rape.

Last week, Toledo police confirmed that Thompson knew the woman.

On Wednesday, Detroit police said the two had been in a relationship until June 2024. The victim ended their relationship after Thompson assaulted her in public. He was arrested for that assault, but those charges were dropped.

Just one week before the alleged kidnapping and assault, the woman filed two stalking and intimidation reports against Thompson with Detroit police.

According to police, Thompson made his way into the woman's apartment building and was found hiding in the stairwell on Sept. 21.

The next day, he was found hiding in the trunk of her car. She was able to make it back to her apartment building and alerted security.

Surveillance video captured one week later shows Thompson forcing her into his car. He then handcuffed her and drove her nearly 60 miles to his home on Mayfair Boulevard in west Toledo, where he then allegedly raped her.

Detroit police told WTOL 11 that all of this was a result of "the suspect's inability to take 'no' for an answer."

When asked if the Detroit Police Department is exploring any additional charges, the department said it "is reviewing all options, but no additional charges have been filed yet."
