Oregon City Schools teacher charged with sexual imposition

The teacher has been placed on leave.

OREGON, Ohio — An Oregon City Schools teacher is facing charges of sexual imposition, charges filed amid an investigation by both the school district and police department after an alleged board policy violation. 

According to Oregon Municipal Court documents, Michael Heck has been charged with two charges of sexual imposition - offensive or reckless sexual contact, both of which are third-degree misdemeanors. These charges were filed on Sept. 3. Heck pleaded not guilty on Sept. 5.

District Associate Superintendent Jim Fritz confirmed to WTOL 11 Monday Heck is employed as a teacher by the district. Heck was placed on leave last week amid an investigation into a possible violation of board policy through communications and personal interactions.

Ohio Board of Education records indicate Heck teaches physical sciences at Clay High School. 

Parents and families were notified of the alleged policy violation on Friday in a letter from Fritz. The letter states a high school student notified the district of the matter. 

"As part of our commitment to ensuring a safe and supportive learning environment for all students, we take any concerns regarding staff conduct very seriously. Please understand that this decision was made to ensure that the investigation is handled with the utmost integrity and to protect the privacy of all parties involved. At this time, we are unable to provide specific details regarding the nature of the investigation, as it is still ongoing," the district said.

Heck is due back in court on Sept. 17.
