TOLEDO, Ohio — A woman is dead and her son indicted on a charge of reckless homicide after a shooting in central Toledo, according to Toledo police.
Officers responded to 2279 Warren Street on a report of a person shot around 12:30 p.m. on Nov. 20 and located the victim, 53-year-old Deborah Baker, inside the home suffering from at least one gunshot wound, according to TPD.
She was later transported to the hospital where she later died. Autopsy results revealed that Baker died of a gunshot wound to the chest. Her manner of death was ruled a homicide.
Baker's son, 18-year-old Joshua Brown, was taken into custody when officers arrived on scene. He was booked into Lucas County Jail and charged with reckless homicide, a third-degree felony.
Court documents give Brown's description of what led up to the shooting. He told police he heard "someone walking up the stairs of his home, which caused him to become afraid."
"[Brown] retrieved the handgun he had on his lap, walked out onto the hallway and fired once from his handgun, striking and killing his mother."
Brown was indicted Wednesday.
