Police: Suspect shoots rifle at traffic near International Park

Gunfire struck a vehicle during the incident, police said in a report.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Police are investigating an incident in east Toledo in which a suspect allegedly fired a rifle at passing traffic near a park. 

According to a Toledo police report, officers responded to International Park on Main Street at approximately 3:30 p.m. Monday after receiving several calls that a man was using a rifle to fire at passing traffic. 

Police arrived on the scene and said in the report they spoke with a 31-year-old witness, who said he had been sitting in his vehicle when it was struck by a rifle round at 8 Main Street. The witness was not listed as injured in the police report.

Officers searched the area and said they located several rifle rounds and a firearm. 

No arrests were made in the incident, nor were any suspects listed.

"We'll be looking for cameras, we'll be looking for other people that may have been driving, walking, or residents in that area as they may have seen somebody flee during that time," Officer Prince Flores with TPD said.

Flores said in situations like this, it's always important to seek safety first.

"The priority is going to be making sure that you get yourself to a safe location first," Flores said. "Making sure that you're not injured or anybody else in your car is then we want to make sure that you're contacting 911."
