Multiple shootings reported in Toledo Sunday; police investigating two as connected

Toledo police confirmed two of the incidents are being investigated as connected.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Police are investigating multiple shootings that occurred in Toledo Sunday, incidents that resulted in injuries and damage. 

According to Toledo police reports, crews responded to the 400 block of Oakdale in east Toledo Sunday shortly after midnight. Upon arrival, they learned a home had been struck by gunfire. Its only occupant at the time was unharmed, law enforcement said.. 

Police crews were later dispatched to the 2700 block of Lawrence Avenue and the 2700 block of North Detroit Avenue after receiving ShotSpotter alerts. Crews arrived at the Lawrence Avenue scene at approximately 10:24 a.m. and located a person in a vehicle.  The victim said he was seated in his parked vehicle when a red Dodge Caliber drove by and its occupants shot at him.

The vehicle then sped away down Islington Street, the victim told police. He was unharmed, but his vehicle was struck numerous times. Police later located a vehicle matching the description parked in front of the 2200 block of Mayville Place with possible evidence. 

Police later responded to a hospital regarding a victim who had been shot. According to the police report, the victim said he was in the Meijer parking lot on East Alexis Road at approximately 10:15 p.m. when a suspect shot him in the leg. The victim was then transported to the hospital by private vehicle. Police claimed the injury appeared to be a superficial graze wound.

A 5-year-old child was also injured in a shooting Sunday at approximately 11:41 p.m. when multiple shots were fired into a home on Brussels Street. According to the police report, the child was shot in the face as they were laying on the couch, and the home was struck multiple times.

UPDATE: Toledo police confirmed to WTOL 11 Monday afternoon the shooting in the Meijer parking lot and the shooting on Brussels Street are being investigated as connected.
