TOLEDO, Ohio — Toledo police revoked the arrest of a suspect wanted in an alleged stabbing, after hospital staff said he was mistakenly discharged Tuesday.

According to a Toledo police report, officers responded to a hospital for a warrant service regarding 39-year-old Michael Smith around 12:45 a.m. Court documents and an arrest warrant stated Smith was charged with felonious assault after he allegedly stabbed a person in the face, hands and leg with a steak knife on July 20.

Police were given Smith's discharge papers and, after verifying the warrant, they arrested and transported him to the Lucas County jail.

While officers were booking Smith, hospital staff contacted authorities and said Smith had been released by mistake and needed to be returned to the hospital "immediately".
