TOLEDO, Ohio — Toledo police have arrested a suspect accused of shooting and killing a 24-year-old man early Sunday in south Toledo.
Elijah Garza, 23, was arrested on murder and felonious assault charges on Monday in the homicide of Zayn Disher, according to police. He was arraigned Tuesday in Toledo Municipal Court where a judge set his bond at $1 million. He's scheduled to be back in court on Nov. 5 for a pretrial hearing.
Police found Disher with multiple gunshot wounds inside a residence in the 2500 block of Airport Highway around 3:46 a.m. on Sunday, according to a report. He was pronounced dead at the hospital about two-and-a-half hours later.
According to court documents, Garza, who is from the Detroit metro area, shot Disher with a handgun.
Family of Disher held a vigil for him early Monday evening, where attendees participated in a moment of silence and lit candles in his memory.
Disher's death was one of two homicides over the weekend in Toledo. Elisha Meraz, 32, was found shot in east Toledo around 1 a.m. on Saturday near the corner of Church Street and Prentice Avenue.
No suspects have been arrested in Meraz's death, which police say is also being investigated as a homicide.
