TOLEDO, Ohio — Authorities are investigating an incident in Putnam County involving a suspicious vehicle, prompting a response from the Northwest Ohio Bomb Squad.
According to a report from Toledo police, Village of Ottawa police officers responded to North Elm Street on Sunday at approximately 1 p.m. after a suspect had allegedly stopped a vehicle in the middle of the road.
According to the report, the suspect was acting "very suspicious" and then leapt onto the hood of a vehicle that was passing by. Authorities transported the suspect to the hospital for minor injuries.
Police claimed the suspect made numerous threats about items that were in the vehicle, threats that led officers to believe there may be explosive devices in the vehicle. Law enforcement at the scene observed what appeared to be fireworks and other suspicious materials in the vehicle.
Ottawa police contacted the Northwest Ohio Bomb Squad, who responded to the scene and rendered the vehicle safe. Authorities located several fireworks cakes and two firearms in the vehicle.
Police did not list the name of the suspect in the report and did not specify if they were in custody. No other injuries were reported.
