Driver flees scene after vehicle crashes into south Toledo building; passenger hospitalized, police say

TOLEDO, Ohio — A person was hospitalized after a vehicle crashed into a south Toledo building early Wednesday.

Toledo police at the scene tell WTOL 11 the driver was speeding and driving recklessly when they lost control and struck a pole on the 500 block of Segur Avenue near Maumee Avenue at approximately 2 a.m.

According to a report, the driver was traveling eastbound on Segur when they drove off the roadway, onto the sidewalk, struck a utility pole and finally struck a building on the south side of Segur.

Following the collision, the operator and front passenger of the vehicle left the scene before emergency services arrived at the location, police said. Crews located the rear passenger, who was found partially ejected from the vehicle and transported to the hospital with what authorities described as "serious injuries". 

At the scene, the victim was observed being pulled from the backseat before he was taken to the hospital by Life Squad.
