Monroe County Sheriff's Office reports phone scam

Here's what you should watch out for.

MONROE COUNTY, Michigan — The Monroe County Sheriff's Office is reporting a phone scam targeting residents and aiming to get personal information. 

According to a press release from the sheriff, residents have been receiving phone calls claiming to be a member of the Monroe County Sheriff's Office. The caller accuses the recipient of missing their court date, and claims that a bench warrant was set for the arrest with a $45,000 bond.

The call is fake, and residents should not speak to the caller. The Monroe County Sheriff's Office said they will never contact anyone by phone or social media for a missed court date. 

Anyone who has received these calls and provided sensitive personal or banking information to the caller should contact Monroe County Central Dispatch at 734-243-7070.
