Motorcyclist seriously injured in west Toledo crash

The motorcyclist was thrown from the bike, police say.

TOLEDO, Ohio — A motorcyclist was taken to the hospital after a crash in west Toledo early Friday. 

According to a Toledo police sergeant on scene, officers and rescue crews responded to the area around 1:30 a.m. regarding a call for a crash. 

Police said the motorcyclist was allegedly speeding along Phillips Avenue, then lost control near the railroad track and was thrown from the bike. 

Police found the biker lying in the road with what they described as very serious injuries.

Parts of the bike could be seen lying mangled in the road, and friends of the injured biker began showing up at the scene after receiving word of the crash. 

Phillips Avenue was shut down for a period of time while the crash was investigated.
