ODOT finds final part for Craig Memorial bridge; span could reopen this week

The drawbridge, which carries State Route 65 over the Maumee River, has been stuck open since March 21 after an electrical component became overloaded.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Crews have obtained the final piece needed to repair the Craig Memorial bridge, which has been closed off to drivers for two weeks.

The drawbridge, which carries State Route 65 over the Maumee River, has been stuck open since March 21 after an electrical component became overloaded. The bridge was reportedly raised to allow a boat to pass, but was then not able to be lowered.

Work to repair the bridge has been underway since last Wednesday, but crews were still waiting on a key piece to be able to complete the project.

Now that the final component has been secured, representatives with the Ohio Department of Transportation hope to return the bridge to service this week.
