Man accused in homicide of Toledo teen indicted on murder charge

Robert Shields III is accused of killing 15-year-old Jaylah Perry in March.

TOLEDO, Ohio — The suspect accused in the homicide of Toledo teen Jaylah Perry was indicted on multiple charges including murder Wednesday. 

According to a court document, a grand jury indicted 18-year-old Robert Shields III on the following charges:

  • One count of aggravated murder
  • Two counts of aggravated burglary
  • Two counts of murder
  • One count of felonious assault

Shields is accused of shooting 15-year-old Perry, whom Toledo police said was his girlfriend, in the head in a home on Park Street in north Toledo on March 17. The Lucas County Coroner's Office ruled her death a homicide.

Indiana State Police pulled Shields over for speeding on I-70 on the morning of April 13 near Knightstown, Ind., east of Indianapolis. When officers discovered there was a warrant out for his arrest, Shields was placed under arrest.

On April 22, Shields was extradited from Indiana to Ohio and booked in the Lucas County Jail on a murder charge. He was later arraigned on a $1 million bond.
